The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
