Rybakina Stuns Sabalenka to Secure Record £4 Million Reward
Rybakina earned her 45th hard-court victory of the year
Rybakina claimed the largest prize in women's tennis all time by beating world number one Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets at the tournament.
Rybakina produced a impressive display to defeat four-time Grand Slam champion her opponent in two sets in the host country.
Because each competitor came through the competition undefeated, the purse on offer was a record-breaking £3.98 million – the biggest payout awarded in WTA history.
The prize money tops the £3.74m the Belarusian won for claiming September's New York major, which was the most lucrative major tournament in the current year.
"It's been an fantastic tournament," said the Kazakh player.
"Truly didn't expect any result so to win the title was just incredible."

Rybakina, who was the world number six, hit 16 winning shots during a dominant opening set performance.
Rybakina fended off a couple of chances before winning every point in the sixth game to take the break and held her serve to secure the first set.
As the second set progressed, the world number one defended two opportunities at four-all to swing the momentum in her favour.
But, after fighting back to disrupt her opponent's flow, Sabalenka let her opponent off the hook by squandering two set points in the following game to level the set at 5-5.
Her inability to force a decider impacted her tie-break performance, with Rybakina winning all seven points to win the championship.
The victory, her sixth triumph over her rival, means Rybakina will rise one place in the WTA rankings to number five in the world rankings.
A distraught Sabalenka was seen crying as she met with her coaching team soon after the match.
"That was not the best display from me in this match but Rybakina you were definitely the better player," the Belarusian told the audience.
"You literally smashed me out of the court. I'm happy to see you at your peak. Enjoy this stunning trophy."
