Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from Piastri by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed corner before the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran ended the session in P19, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
