More than two weeks following the shocking loss of esteemed filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones continue to honor the duo.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Posting on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, explained he just recently felt able to express about his personal sorrow.
"Sufficient time has passed that I can now articulate my loss into words," wrote Elwes, saying that his initial encounter with Reiner created an instant bond. "Once we started sharing more moments together I knew this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor uploaded never-before-seen clips from the production, remarking that he cannot recall "one day without joy".
"The movie is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Values that Rob held dear. This is one of the many reasons he was the best person to helm it," Elwes expressed.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, noting: "Claiming that they were a formidable pair would be an understatement. My heart still pangs every time I recall you." He ended with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Fellow Artist
In a separate tribute, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved being with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was very funny and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the lead role.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked seamlessly with everyone, and he grasped the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese noted.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Restricted
This week, a Los Angeles judge ruled to prevent the release of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, following a petition from the local authorities.
A judicial mandate put a security hold on the investigation to prohibit the public release of "related notes, documents, files or images" connected to the active case.
The coroner's office had earlier stated their deaths were the result of murder, with a official listing citing the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Aftermath and Reactions
After the deaths, public figures shared varying reactions.
Former President Donald Trump commented on the matter, providing divisive claims that were widely condemned by numerous commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his voice to the those speaking out last week. Conversing on his show, Rogan described the remarks as "disappointing" and implied they demonstrated a concerning lack of empathy.
Rogan finished by suggesting that an adviser could have intervened when the impulse to weigh in on the passing was made.
